Tips for Avoiding Damage Charges

Students, you are required to compensate the university for damage to any of the university’s property due to your actions.  PLEASE follow the following guidelines to avoid damage charges for the care of your room.

CLEAN YOUR ROOM – You are responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of your room.  You are expected to vacuum and clean the sink, shower and toilet weekly.

SUBMIT ONLINE WORK ORDERS – If you have a repair that needs to be made, don’t ignore it, submit a work order to have it fixed.  You will not be charged for repairs that need to be made due to normal usage.  We will also replace light bulbs in university-owned fixtures at no cost to you.

DO NOT REMOVE FURNITURE FROM YOUR ROOM University owned furniture is to remain in your room.  You will be responsible for any missing furniture

REPORT CARPET STAINS IMMEDIATELY – If you spill something on the carpet place an online work order immediately.  Most spills will not result in stains if taken care of promptly.  You will be responsible if spills result in stains.

DO NOT USE HAIR DYE IN YOUR ROOM – Hair dye stains do not come out, you will always incur a damage charge for hair dye stains.

USE PUSH PINS FOR DECORATING – Appropriate room decorations (posters, pictures, etc.) are allowed if properly secured.  Use of screws or nails that leave large holes will result in damage charges

DO NOT PREPARE FOOD IN YOUR ROOM – You are not allowed to prepare food in your room.  A kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator is provided in each residence.

KEEP YOUR ROOMMATE(S) ACCOUNTABLE – Any damage to your room is distributed equally with other roommate(s) unless it can be determined which occupant is responsible for the damages.

CHECK OUT AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER – If you do not follow the final check out procedure made official through your Resident Director, you will be charged a fee.

RETURN YOUR KEY – You are responsible to keep track of your key and return it at the end of the year.  Any key not returned will result in a charge.
